We are a family run organisation founded in January 1996 based in
several venues around the London Borough of Sutton
During it's short time club membership has grown to well over 350 members, consisting of Kano Club (under 8 years), juniors
(8-16 years) and seniors (16-adult), The club also caters for all
judo needs, from suits, badges and t-shirts to helping with
club membership.
To date we have been very successful in competition with many of our
members achieving County Area and National standard. In 2000, 2001
and 2002 we finished in second position in the Surrey Millennium
league, which involves around 27 clubs from the Surrey area. In 2003
this was improved with Westcroft finishing top in a very competitive
but friendly and good spirited final.
Westcroft Judo Club is affiliated to the British Judo Association (BJA),
and as such we have full public liability insurance. The BJA is the
only judo organisation in Britain to be recognised by the
International Olympic Committee. Each individual member must join
the BJA if they wish to participate in the grading system or enter
tournaments.
All our coaches are fully BJA qualified which includes studying
child protection and first aid as well as all training techniques.
Competition and Gradings:
We operate the BJA. grading scheme from the age of 8 upwards.
For the over 8's the first six belt gradings (up to 6th mon) are
non-competitive and are examined at the Club by your Coach,
thereafter gradings are assessed in a competitive situation against
members of other clubs.
To gain the full benefit of judo, players are encouraged to
participate in local tournaments thus assisting them to progress
through their grades as well as gaining experience and achievement
in competition.
