13th August
Windsurfing Away Day...

Kerry, Ellie, Katie, Emily, James, Mitch, Stuart and Fenner had a very interesting away-day at Bewl Windsurfing. The weather was great but the wind was rather strong for the under 36kg nevertheless, everyone enjoyed the fun and with shear grit and determination, most were up and windsurfing by the end of the day.  The early evening barbeque was particularly welcomed by the New "Westcroft Windsurfing Team" and their parents.
Like all BBQs, loads of food and drink, bangers, burgers, chicken & lamb. A particular thank you to James's dad who proved that when push comes to shove, you really can cook good food on a BBQ with just a Swiss army knife and a plastic fork..!  Well done to all of those who took advantage of a thoroughly good away-day...

Sussex Junior & Youth Open...

Westcroft Judo Club Juniors took 5 medals at the South Coast Junior Open Championships. The event was open-grade, with competitors up to black belt grade competing.

Sarah Mason took the gold medal in the girls' over 70 kg group. Sarah's strong "Russian" style grip enabled her to get three excellent throws. Hannah Tiernan won the silver medal in the girls' under 63 kg group. Hannah won all her fights up the the finals with Ippon throws (maximum score), and was unlucky to lose in the last few seconds of the finals in her group. Both girls have only just moved up to these weight groups, and are showing real promise in these categories.

Jamal Petgrave won the silver medal in the boys' under 42 kg (under 12's) group, and Samuel Mabbut won the bronze medal in this group. Both boys fought well in a group with very high standard of judo.

Fenner Clark used the Uchimata throw and strong Kesagatame hold-downs to win all his fights by Ippon to take him to the finals, where he won the silver medal in the under 46 kg (under 12's) boys' group.

Jake Mulley, Jordan Mulley and Joey Fowler all achieved good placings in the boys under 12's under 34 kg category, which had more than 20 competitors. Jake won several fights with Ippon throws, and was in the lead for bronze medal when he was thrown by his opponent. Jake finished in a highly creditable 5th place. Jordan and Joey also had some good wins, finishing in joint 7th place.

Taking part and fighting valiantly were Ellie Johncey, Ayben Mertdag, Sam, Charlie Clark, Mitchel Kayne, Daniel Diver and Nicky Fowler.
Boys Under 12 - U42kg, Jamail Petgrave won a Silver and Samuel Mabbott won the Bronze:
Boys Under 12 - U46kg, Fenner Clark won a Silver
Girls Under 16 - U63kg, Hannah Tiernan won a Silver
Girls Under 16  - over70kg, Sarah Mason Won Gold.
