Westcroft Travel to Marcinelle In Belgium and win 3rd place

A coach full of competitors and parents travelled overnight to compete in the International Tournament in Marcinelle. For many it was their first chance to compete abroad. The competition was of a high standard with over 600 entries!!. All the players did well, adapting to the European rules and French speaking referees. We were made very welcome and provided with a much needed breakfast of waffles and tea after travelling through the night to arrive at 8am Saturday morning. We had a good mix of ages and weights with fights throughout the day. Our oldest competitors were still fighting at 7pm!! I really don't want to single people out as it was a great team event with everyone supporting each other despite the urge to sleep anywhere at anytime. A skill best displayed by the teenagers amongst us.

A big thank you to Andy for arranging the visit and coaching the kids throughout the day. Communication was difficult but he did a great job making sure everyone got to the right mat on time and even managed to get the timetable changed so we could get the ferry home. As a parent on the trip I felt the kids were a credit to the club, their behaviour on and of the mat was something they should all be proud of. I am sure this will be the first of many adventures on the Continent.
