Welcome to the dynamic sport of Judo
and the official Westcroft Judo Club Website
From the Japanese meaning the “gentle way”, Judo is a very disciplined form
of martial art, which is an ideal activity for all youngsters from the age of
five upwards.
Judo is a modern Olympic combat sport and an ideal form of self-defence.
Participants are taught correct falling procedures, throwing, breaking balance
and grappling techniques; all in a controlled environment. Punching and kicking
are prohibited in Judo.
The benefits of regular participation range from improved self-esteem and
confidence to gains in stamina, strength, fitness and co-ordination. Discipline
and respect also play a large part in the sport and those who participate are
encouraged and expected to exercise this at all times.
NOTE:
The Club will be closed Tuesday 24th Jan due to the
Commonwealth Judo Championships

Seiryoku Zenyo
(Maximum Efficiency with Minimum
Effort)
The first principle, "Seiryoku Zenyo", makes certain that
your training is efficient. What you learn must work. The
difference between what works and what does not, could mean
the difference between life and death.
If a certain waza works only when your partner
cooperates, its efficacy is in question. Or, if it works
only when applied by someone with considerably superior
strength, it probably is not efficient.
